Frames to the Fore

‘Jo was a joy to work with and really took all the hard work out of the exhibition production for me. The exhibition looked fantastic, I was so pleased with it!’
Suzanne Reid, Conservator West, The National Trust for Scotand

Jo worked with the NTS Conservation team and designer Shirley Lochhead to produce an exhibition within an existing building at Culzean (formely used as a shop) which would form part of an open studio experience.

Visitors were invited to watch conservation of a gilt frame taking place while also learning about what was going on through a series of text panels (with the intention that they would not distract the conservator from her work!). The exhibition was delivered in a very tight timescale of just over 1 month. Jo led the content development process and ensured that all design and production work was completed on time and on budget.

The room contained a series of bookcases installed with shop shelving, so the designer was briefed to create bespoke panel shapes that would cover these up. Jo commissioned stunning new photography by Mike Bolam of the artists studio as there was very little other quality visual material available. Shirley make fabulous use of this to create a lively backdrop to the conservator’s working area.
