Siccar Point Deep Time Trail

I recently worked within the CMC team to deliver content (text and audio script) for a new trail near Dunbar in East Lothian, celebrating the life and work of James Hutton, and his incredible discoveries, made along this part of the Scottish coastline – discoveries that completely changed how people thought about planet Earth and our place within it.

The launch was well attended and it was great to meet others who had been involved.
A series of mini panels, with little Scots intros (he spoke broad Scots, according to some contemporary accounts) and various insights to Hutton’s journey towards his discovery at the Point, brings visitors towards the hub area and rocky coastline where they can see and find out more. QR codes invite a deeper layer of engagement through a series of audio tracks.
Selecting quotes to go on these feature stones was a project highlight. It also required a lot of attention to detail at all stages, including ensuring we were working to the definitive versions of his work at the outset, and that errors didn’t creep in. We saved the big-hitters, such as this one, for the main hub area. Along the way, I sought some lesser-known words of Hutton wisdom to add interest, and to bring his voice into the experience.
